UPDATE: Pawtucket Pool To Open
At 9:30am yesterday the City of Pawtucket responded to a request for an update on the status of the public pool. They released a statement which said, in part, “Safety is the number one priority at all City facilities, therefore the pool will not open to the public until the Parks and Recreation Division concludes its search for qualified lifeguards....We are working as expeditiously as possible to resolve this unexpected matter and ensure quality services for the residents of Pawtucket".
At 5:30pm yesterday, the City of Pawtucket announced that the pool will open on Saturday, July 6th at 11am - with two lifeguards. Here is their full statement:
"The City of Pawtucket and the Parks and Recreation Division have announced that the City of Pawtucket will be opening the Fairlawn Veterans Memorial Park Pool on Saturday, July 6th at 11 a.m. after the hiring of two certified lifeguards.
'We are pleased to announce that the pool will be open for the public, especially our youth,' said Mayor Donald R. Grebien. 'I appreciate Parks and Recreation’s efforts to fill the positions in less than a week after the prior lifeguards had backed out, and thank everyone who stepped up in assisting with finding qualified lifeguards to keep our residents safe while they cool off in the hot summer days.'
'We are excited to get the community pool up and running,' said Recreation Manager John Blais. 'Thank you to all for your positive community support and outreach, which helped us hire the right, qualified lifeguards. This is a testament to the great people who live in the neighborhood.'
The community pool will be open 7 days a week from July 6th through Sunday, August 18th. Currently, the pool will close July 9th, 10th, 17th, and 18th due to scheduling conflicts with the certified lifeguards. Parks and Recreation is working on possible alternatives to open on these dates.
The pool will operate during the following hours.
· Monday: Noon – 5 p.m.
· Tuesday: 11 a.m. – 6 p.m.
· Wednesday: 11 a.m. – 6 p.m.
· Thursday: Noon – 5 p.m.
· Friday: 11 a.m. – 6 p.m.
· Saturday: 11 a.m. – 6 p.m.
· Sunday: 11 a.m. – 6 p.m.
The Veteran’s Memorial Park Pool will serve as a site for Aramark’s Free Summer Food Service Program. Weather permitting, free lunches will be served from Monday to Friday from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. on the days the pool is open with the exception of Monday, August 12th. The program will run through Friday, August 16th.
