2nd Amendment Sanctuary Cities - 1, 2, 3….
A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.
Burrillville became the first city/town in Rhode Island to declare itself a 2nd Amendment Sanctuary City. Supporting the Burrillville Police Department's right "to exercise sound discretion" in the enforcement of gun-related laws, while not paying for storage of weapons that are seized under any new gun control legislation that may be passed, the declaration was passed unanimously.
Glocester seeks to become the second Rhode Island city or town to declare itself a 2nd Amendment Sanctuary City when it will consider a similar resolution on May 16th.
And, third in the starting gate, according to RI News Today sources, for consideration, will be the Town of West Greenwich, with a resolution on the agenda, as soon as next week.
Other states with cities and towns considering “Sanctuary” resolutions are, to date: New Mexico, Colorado, Illinois, Oregon, Washington, North Carolina, and Nevada. The entire states of Alaska, Idaho and Kansas have taken similar state-wide actions.
